I have been cleaning on my own as a service of the heart to family & friends since 2002, with paid experience since 2010. I first began cleaning in 2002 as a way of showing my grandmother my love and appreciation for her. Slowly I began to incorporate her methods of cleaning—the “old fashioned” way, from washing dishes by hand, to sweeping & then scrubbing floors on hands & knees, to hanging her laundry on the line & ironing it piece by piece. For five years until her passing in 2007, I spent each summer and every winter vacation with her in southside Virginia, serving faithfully and joyfully. Over time I began to provide my service of the heart to more people—friends, family, church members. In 2010 I got my first paid cleaning job with a friend in Bally, Pennsylvania, where I got more skills under my belt. Finally in 2012 I snagged a position at Merry Maids, and ever since I’ve been working as a paid housekeeper, with experience as a private housekeeper, as well as with agencies and in an institutional setting. I provide extensive home care, with a "Top to Bottom, Back to Front, and Left to Right" method of thorough cleaning, starting with high dusting (all crown mouldings, window treatments & drapes, corners, walls) and finishing with floor care (vacuuming or sweeping, followed by hand scrubbing or mopping hard floors). I also do all laundry (wash, dry, fold, iron, hang up, and starch), dishes (hand wash or load & unload washer), metal polishing (brass, silver, copper), and other services within reason. My emphasis is on doing the best job, the first time, every time--as well as reviving the level of quality, compassion, positive attitude, and cheerfulness once more commonplace. Good results--a clean house--are only part of the equation. No amount of skills and credentials can make up for an absence of good character, compassion, cheerfulness, and pleasant, optimistic attitude. I found many of the agencies to be sorely lacking in such necessary qualities, as well as overcharging customers for services that were quite lacking in thoroughness. I learned by observing that customers deserve better treatment, better attitudes, and better cleaning. This is part of why I do what I do—even paid, Sweeping Beauty is above all a “service of the heart”.
